Clearweld coatings are solvent-based materials which enable two pieces of plastic to be laser welded by efficiently converting laser energy to heat. They can be used on a wide range of plastic substrates and with a variety of colors, provided one of the substrates is laser-transmissive.

Unlike laser-absorptive resins, coatings can be used in applications where both the top and bottom substrates are laser-transmissive. Their use provides virtually limitless color flexibility, including transparent and water-white materials.

Designed for use with Clearweld certified dispensing equipment, these coatings are available for needle-tip and microsolenoid dispensing systems.

Our patented plastic laser welding technology allows plastic product designers and engineers to overcome challenges and obstacles presented by light curable adhesives and solvent bonds.

Clearweld 100 and 200 Series

Clearweld 100 and 200 Series coatings are biocompatible, and have passed cytotoxicity testing for use in medical devices.  These coatings meet USP Class VI standards for FDA approval.  Although the Clearweld medium provides a clean weld, all medical devices must be tested in whole for FDA approval.

Clearweld 900 Series

Clearweld 900 Series were originally developed for industrial use in 2013, to provide the same clean, clear welds as the original Clearweld 100 and 200 Series coatings, at a lower cost for large-scale commodity applications.  NAMSA tests completed in February 2014 show negative results for cytotoxicity, making Clearweld 900 Series coatings now available for biomedical and food-related applications. Although the Clearweld medium provides a clean weld, all medical devices must be tested in whole for FDA approval.
